Dollars to Hours Calculator
A dollar figure on a slide means little on the floor. The same figure in hours (per week, per person) is something a team can picture and act on.
The math, in plain view.
Hours a year = dollars ÷ cost per hour, then divided by working weeks for a weekly figure and by headcount for a per-person figure. Use the rate that matches the money: the overtime rate for overtime spend, the loaded rate for regular labor.
Put the hours next to the dollars in your next review. "$250,000 of overtime" becomes "about 88 hours a week, nearly 4 hours per person", and the conversation moves from finance to the floor.
Which rate should I use?
The rate that matches what the dollars paid for. Overtime spend: the overtime rate including premium. Savings from removed work: the loaded regular rate.
Why show it per person?
Because people can picture their own week. Four hours each is a concrete conversation; a six-figure total is not.
What is an FTE here?
A full-time equivalent of 2,080 paid hours a year (40 hours × 52 weeks).
